Spring Term 2026
This term our cross-curricular activities and learning will be inspired by our learning theme of 'Once Upon a Time' as well as learning about Easter and seasonal changes, later in the term we will learning about different countries and cultures and comparing them with our own using the text 'Here We Are'. We will be developing our Reading Area inspired by traditional tales and fairy tales and other stories and non-fiction texts. We will be using different traditional tales to help us in lots of our creative and other learning experiences.
We will be continuing to use our wonderful outside spaces in every weather, watching the seasonal changes of winter into spring. We will continue to explore and utilise our outside spaces and our Forest Site as much as we can. We are continuing our Forest sessions on a Thursday Morning. Please ensure your child is wrapped up warmly.
In Literacy, through our daily phonics and reading sessions using the Read Write Inc phonics scheme, we will be working on recognising and using our set 1 and set 2 letter sounds and blending these to read words and sentences. We are continuing to work on developing our fine motor, dexterity and core strength to improve and develop our handwriting skills. Don't forget Your child will has access to the online book they are working on in their Read Write Storybooks phonics lessons at school. We will also be beginning to think about our stories that we will create for our stories4schools project.
We will be continuing to use Numicon and other practical resources to support and enhance maths learning and are involved in the Mastering Numbers Project where Number Blocks are used. Through practical activities and games there will be daily opportunities for developing a deeper understanding of number. Throughout the year we will be working on recognising and writing and having a really good understanding of numbers 1-20. Through practical activities in the classroom and using our outside spaces, children will be encouraged to develop problem solving skills, use subatising, develop awareness and understanding of different number patterns and hopefully develop confidence and enjoyment when using maths and number. We will also work on recognising the properties of shape around us as well have an understanding of space and measure too. If your child would like to practice their maths skills they have access to online games and activities on Numbots.
There will of course be lots of opportunities to be creative, develop imagination, explore and investigate and be physical through daily continuous play provision.
Days that your child will be going to Forest School will usually be on a Thursday and PE sessions will usually be on a Tuesday afternoon. This term we are developing our movement and travelling skills through multi-skills games . Please ensure that your child wears PE into school on Tuesday and a warm PE kit on Thursday.
We have sent home WOW vouchers for you to share WOW moments of learning that your child has done at home. We look forward to seeing what you are getting up to at home
