Autumn Term  2 2025

The second half of the Autumn Term, cross-curricular activities and learning will be inspired by our learning theme of 'Space' as well as learning about 'Festivals' including Divali, Hannukah, Christmas, Bonfire Night and Eid.  We have planned and are developing our Reading Area inspired by 'Aliens Love Underpants' and other stories and non-fiction texts. We have used space and festival themed texts to help us in lots of our creative and other learning experiences.Aliens Love Underpants (@aliensloveunderpants)

We will be continuing to use our wonderful outside spaces in every weather, watching the seasonal changes as autumn changes into winter. We will continue to explore and utilise our outside spaces and our Forest Site as much as we can. We are continuing our Forest sessions on a Thursday Morning. Please ensure your child is wrapped up warmly.Snowflake Cartoon Images – Browse 669,923 Stock Photos, Vectors, and Video | Adobe Stock

In Literacy, through our daily phonics and reading sessions using the Read Write Inc phonics scheme, we will be working on recognising and using our set 1 letter sounds and blending these to read words and sentences. We have invited parents to a phonics Reading Workshop to share teaching of phonics and reading and look forward to seeing lots of there.  We are continuing to work on developing our fine motor, dexterity and core strength to improve and develop our handwriting skills. Your child will  have the opportunity to choose a library book and will be given  reading book on a Monday, and will also have access at home to the online book your child is working on in their Read Write Storybooks phonics lessons at school.

We will be using Numicon and other practical resources to support and enhance maths learning and  are involved in the Mastering Numbers Project where Number Blocks are used. Through practical activities and games  there will be daily opportunities for developing a deeper understanding of number. Throughout the year we will be working on recognising and writing and having a really good understanding of numbers 1-20. Through practical activities in the classroom and using our outside spaces, children will be encouraged to develop problem solving skills, use subatising, develop awareness and understanding of different number patterns and hopefully develop confidence and enjoyment when using maths and number. We will also work on recognising the properties of shape around us as well have an understanding of space and measure too.

There will of course be lots of opportunities to be creative, develop imagination, explore and investigate and be physical through daily continuous play provision.

Days that your child will be going to Forest School will usually be on a Thursday and PE sessions will usually be on a Tuesday afternoon. This term we are developing our movement and travelling skills through multi-skills games . Please  ensure that your child wears PE into school on Tuesday and a warm PE kit on Thursday.

We have sent home WOW vouchers for you to share WOW moments  of learning that your child has done at home. We look forward to seeing what you are getting up to at home

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns or would like to offer your help or support in any way

Thank you
